Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Originating with the Gracie clan from Brazil, BJJ has evolved into the premier grappling style in the world today. Through the use of position and leverage, the goal of this martial art is to allow a smaller, weaker fighter to effectively defend themselves from a larger, stronger, more aggressive opponent. Techniques taught include takedowns, chokes, strangles, joint locks, sweeps, and escapes. Students train in both gi and no gi and spar every class. When sparring, there is no striking, allowing the students to practice the techniques they've learned in a safe environment while working at 90-100%. Emphasis is on techniques that are proven to work in both gi and no gi matches, as well as real fights and MMA competitions.
